The new fire station No. 2 for the Town of Hilton Head Island was constructed on a one-acre site of an existing fire station, which was built in the early 1980’s. The original station and property had been modified/renovated numerous times throughout it’s history. Due to the existing building no longer being adequate and suffering from water damage and structural weakness, it was demolished prior to the start of construction.

The new facility is a one-story station of approximately 8,300 SF, which houses living quarters for 5 firefighters, community meeting room, training room, weight room, and 3-truck apparatus bays. As part of the Town’s initiative to upgrade facilities, a design standard for fire stations was developed and was incorporated in the design of this station. This includes the ability for the building to withstand seismic and high wind events, along with being elevated above flood levels and ability to house additional staff during a emergency events. The building exterior is designed to compliment the surrounding architecture of Sea Pines Resort which includes brick, cementitious panel, shingle siding and asphalt shingle roof with feature areas with standing seam metal roofing.
